US President Barack Obama
The results of an opinion poll conducted by the Gallup Institute show that less than half of Americans approve of the job Barack Obama is doing as the president.
According to the results of the Gallup Institute poll released on Wednesday, 46 percent of those queried voiced approval, with only 38 percent of independents supporting his job performance, marking the first time his job approval rating among independent voters has slipped below 40 percent.
The US president's approval ratings have slipped among all political party groupings, but he still retains an 81 percent approval rating among Democrats, down from 90 percent last year.
Republican approval of Obama is still low, at 12 percent, also down from 20 percent last year.
The ailing economy, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the war in Afghanistan are all thought to have had a negative impact on Obama's approval ratings."
